Not mentioned in any
documents, the name of Guido da Siena is known to us from the signature on the \i Maestα\i0 in the Palazzo Pubblico of Siena, whose faces were repainted by an artist from DuccioÆs circle at the beginning of the fourteenth century. His work, though influ
enced by PisanÆs and BerlinghieroÆs painting in particular, is fully autonomous in style and would serve as a point of reference for the Sienese painters of the late thirteenth century, especially Duccio. In his pictures it is also possible to find echoe
s of Coppo di Marcovaldo, the Florentine painter who, taken prisoner by the Sienese at the battle of Montaperti, painted the \i Madonna del Bordone\i0 in the Servite church of that city in 1261.
